Larger cities such as Angouleme (with its old quarter, cathedral and pretty shopping area - as well as the renowned Circuit de Remparts annual Classic Car motor racing weekend held in September) is 40 minutes' drive away. Poitiers, with its cathedral and 11th-Centry Romanesque church associated with Eleanor of Acquitaine, Musée Saint-Croix, Parc de Blossac and the Futuroscope science and film park is a very popular city.

 

The historic cities of Bordeaux (1.5 hour), St Emilion (1 hour), Bergerac (1 hour), Cognac (1.5 hour), Perigueux (1 hour), Brantôme (1 hour) and Poitiers (2.5 hours) are wonderful places to visit for the day.

 

The coast is approximately 2 hours' drive away, with La Rochelle, Ile de Ré, Ile d'Oleron and Arcachon being popular destinations.

 

The excellent local markets, restaurants and wine and food shops make the whole area a heavenly location for food lovers!
